Leeroy has has a rough couple of weeks. In between being responsible for my novel, The Ballad of Helene Troy, still in editing, and keeping up with 100 word song, he fell tremendously ill. After being declared unrepairable, we got a second opinion from a guy I work with and he was able to be taken out of instensive care Saturday, just in time for my two youngest daughters’ birthday slumber party. Thank you to Melissa aka Mel aka @accordingtomags for guest posting and giving us a Push with the Matchbox Twenty song.
Today is my youngest daughter’s 8th birthday. Known around here as Goose, she and Leeroy have a special relationship. She plays video games with him and also looks up Big Time Rush, One Direction and Demi Lovato pictures with him too. She mostly likes pop music but one song we share an affinity for is Come Around by Counting Crows. Instead of asking one of you for a tune, I let the Goose loose and decided to play one of her favorites.
Here’s my 100, thanks to Jake and Violet from Soul To Body.
Jake settled in the passenger seat of Violet’s Volkswagen Beetle. His daughter buckled and looked into the traffic of a busy hospital parking lot. Jake’s phone buzzed in his hand with a text from Mallory.
“Counting Crows on 93!”
Jake grinned and pressed the radio’s seek button. Violet pulled into the first lane then stared back at him.
“Isn’t this the band you opened for or whatever right before you met mom?”
Jake closed his eyes, letting the opening guitar riff roll over him.
“Yes, sweetie.”
Violet sighed then slammed her foot on the accelerator to drive onto the highway.
“Mom never liked them.”
Happy Birthday Baby Goose!

Ha! Now there’s a line I like from Violet. She’s starting to grow on me. That could always change, but yeah, I like her here.
Yes! Violet is spunky, and I like it!
Ohh, ouch! That teenage angst! I love it!
Awesome story, Violet is obviously very cool.
Violet’s my kind of girl. Spirited, opinionated… all the things I wish I could be, ha ha. Great one, Lance! Sorry it’s been a while since I commented, bogged down, but this was like a sorbet to my poetic taste buds. Peace, Amy

Does anyone around that house actually ever use their real name? Are you actually all ROBOT SPIES??
yep…you got us…put THAT on a t-shirt!
I saw CC a while back – late 90′s I think. Even if you are a casual fan, you can’t help but enjoy them live.
And hmmm they are on tour – but $56 a ticket? Will have to consider. You made a case.
I saw Counting Crows in concert years ago…with The Wallflowers I think. Always liked them but I’m not super familiar with this song so it’ll be interesting to do the 100 words.
As for your segment: The line where he gets the text “tells”. I think you could reword it to “show”. The phone vibrated against his palm, the flash of Mallory’s name on the screen brought a grin. Or something
This song is from their last album – Saturday Nights and Sunday Mornings. Its really good.
made the edits…thanks Carrie
Happy birthday Goose!
I have this vision of the future in which blogger kids have their own fan clubs and support groups, write articles like “Top Ten Worst Things About Parent Bloggers” and “Top Ten Best Blogger Kid Nicknames.” And like royal names, they will refer to themselves as “Jake from Pleasantly Demented” or “Goose from MBCBUYB.” And folks like you and I will be relegated to telling stories about how many times we had to click stuff just to actually publish a blog post. They will laugh at us. We will ask them to come over and help us set up a newfangled blog so we can bitch about them. And make up nicknames for our grandkids.
Happy birthday to Goose! Love her nickname.
thank you
Love the band and the song and it works so good to move my story along. And poor Jake. He can’t get a break can he?

I’m sneaking in after a looooong absence..
welcome back renee
The last line was spectacular. Violet managed to steal a warm memory from her father with her vicious tongue… I wonder what type of karma she has set in place for herself.
Another wonderful addition to Soul to Body.
thank you k
