Redhead Walking

Last time with Soul To Body: http://lancemyblogcanbeatupyourblog.wordpress.com/2012/12/27/here-with-me/

Two blue plates displayed Mongolian chicken over white rice as Jake and Mallory exchanged flirtatious grins across his kitchen table. His unanswered text to his sister-in-law of “wait two hours before coming over” caused him anguish about whether he’d survive Augusta seeing him with someone only three months after her sister died.

“Jake, if you want me to leave, say so.”

Needing to blurt “yes, he gave into the alluring redhead. Her huge smile, deep green eyes, and pretty face centered his attention.

“No, Mallory…”

Before he could finish, she walked around the table, straddled his lap, and kissed him.

****blogger’s note****

Two prompts hold a new episode of my short story about a grieving father of a teenage daughter, called Soul To Body. Trifecta Writing’s “survive” http://www.trifectawritingchallenge.com/2012/12/trifecta-week-fifty-eight.html and Velvet Verbosity’s “redhead”  http://www.velvetverbosity.com/ are highlighted here. Please visit those places. Amazing writers and writing are located within.

Today’s song is an underrated one from R.E.M. from their Accelerate record, called Redhead Walking.

  1. You’re missing the closing ” in the third paragraph.

I’m new to this story (only having read a few small pieces so far), but I like Mallory’s take-charge attitude in this section. Sometimes that’s what you have to do.

  2. Okay, if Gus doesn’t kick his ass I sure will!!! I hate Mallory…she’s making me think more and more of Medusa…if Medusa had red hair instead of snakes…maybe just a siren.

  3. Mallory is what we used to call a ‘fast woman.’ I do like that you’ve kept the mystery of why she is so taken with Jake, what her ulterior motives are.
